Shortsea Shipping Days 2019

08.04.2019

Shortsea Shipping Days is an established conference, organised on an annual basis, under the auspices of the European Shortsea Network, and focuses on the latest developments in Shortsea Shipping at the European level. The conference examines the emerged trends and opportunities of the sector, while emphasising the significant contribution of SSS to the development of European economies. It constitutes a meeting point that brings together all the players in the supply chain to discuss common problems and concerns, to present new solutions and share best practices in the maritime industry and the logistics.

This year, the Shortsea Shipping Days 2019 conference under the title ‘Shortsea: Challenges Ahead’ takes place in Greece, on June 13, 2019 at the Yacht Club of Greece, Piraeus, and is coordinated by Shortsea Promotion Centre Greece, under the auspices of the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association and organised by Newsfront / Naftiliaki

2020 will be crucial for the maritime industry, as international environmental regulations must be adopted by the industry and shipowners must be prepared to face new challenges.

Shortsea shipping is one of the most important subsectors of maritime transport in the EU, conducting nearly 60\% of the Union’s transport of goods through EU ports. The ability and readiness of the sector to correspond to the new conditions will determine its future performance and efficiency.

This day–long event is free for participants, who will have the opportunity to hear a series of presentations by prominent experts and then discuss the content of these presentations. Classification societies, technical directors, representatives of European Maritime Agencies will discuss the new regulations, focusing on the challenges and the opportunities lying ahead.

Shortsea Shipping Days 2019 will examine the Adriatic Ionian Investment Strategic, the problems as well as the opportunities in the Ionian Sea and the multimodality that characterise external trade, demonstrating ports’ and logistics’ significance in trade chain. Focus will be also given to the East Med area and challenge for better sea connection.

Furthermore, Shortsea Shipping Days 2019 will focus on bunkers and LNG, discussing the vital issue of fuel availability and quality and the new technologies that need to be developed or already exist, in order to meet the needs of new regulations.
