Maritime insurance plays a key role in the development of shipping and the dissemination of knowledge is necessary in an increasingly complex and ever-changing environment, Elias Tsakiris, chief executive of the American Hellenic Hull Insurance Company and George Theocharidis, a professor at World Maritime University founded by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) told maritimes.gr in an interview.
AHHIC and WMU have signed a cooperation memorandum in 2019 and students of the a Masters Program had the opportunity to visit Piraeus a few days ago and hear from Mr. Tsakiris and other Greek shipping executives the secrets of the leading Greek market.
"The aim was to lay the foundation for co-operation between a UN-affiliated educational institution and an international insurance agency to promote the sustainable development agenda," Theoharides explained.
“Education is the future. Is it possible that there are no Greek classification societies and insurers in Piraeus? We are promoting the science of maritime insurance at an international level so that in the future the Greeks are not only managers, but also insurers, ”added Tsakiris.
"Education is the connecting glue for a fragmented maritime cluster, such as the Greek one," Mr. Theocharidis said.
